What are the pros and cons of increased campaign spending?

I know that it's a good thing because the money spent does pay for jobs and salaries, and that it is used to help educate the public more about politicians. But it's bad that the wealthy can donate loads more and have a greater influence on the outcome of the election. That money would be better off going to charity.
