I mean if ther's some money left over; can they keep it or must they do something else with the leftover money? I assume at least the will have to pay taxes on it, if they are allowed to keep the money.What Happens to Campaign Contribution Money After an Election?
It stays in their campaign pot for the next time they run for office.

In the presidential primary campaigns, for example, the money raised for the primaries is different than for the general election. They will likely spend every penny on getting their party's nomination, but (I'm not sure about this part) if there is anything left over, it transfers to the general election if they win.





If a candidate is not selected to the general election, then any money contributed to their campaign for the general election must be returned.





An individual may contribute up to $2,300 for each portion of the campaign.
