What happens to campaign contributions left over after a candidate loses or drops out of a race?

Or what if they have a deficit? Do contributors get their money back? What happens to campaign contributions left over after a candidate loses or drops out of a race?
no, they are to donate it to charity, give it to other campaigns (be it for senators, governors, president etc.) or let it build up interest while pondering if they will run again in the future. if they do they can keep the money for that campaign. Now weather this is the way it always works.. is a different storyWhat happens to campaign contributions left over after a candidate loses or drops out of a race?
They get to keep the money. which is probably why some of them with no chance of actually winning stay in the race.. they can keep fundraising.
