How do I start a gay rights campaign?

I really believe that they are about to ban gay marriage in DC. I don't think it's fair that gays can't marry but us straight people can. What about human rights?How do I start a gay rights campaign?
Wow-I can't believe the hateful answers you received. I checked your profile and noted your age. Go on-line and google ';Gay-straight alliance.'; I agree you should promote an already established organization and there is a strong support group for promoting this issue at the high school level and then, as a group, moving it into your city. Your group should organize and then start approaching your local government and community groups. You age group is the future of the world. You can influence older Americans, but you need an organization and a systematic approach. I'd use the Gay-Straight Alliance model. I admire you for doing this and I'm ready for the thumbs-down to start pouring in. By the way, I'm 61 years old and have been married 32 years. So-there are a lot of straight people who agree with you. Yahoo seems filled with some hateful people. I cannot figure out how a gay marriage effects me in any way.How do I start a gay rights campaign?
Oh, for God's SAKE. DMurderByZeN, You want to marry your hamster? All right, here's what you can do: invent something that'll turn your hamster into a human, so that it's a legal resident of the U.S. and can make the conscious decision to marry you, then sign a marriage contract. Ignorant asshole.

If you fully support human rights, and limited government, specific 'gay rights' are not needed.

The marriage license system was made to prevent blacks from marrying whites shortly after the end of slavery, we do not need government involved in marriage AT ALL. Marriage is between the people and the church, not the people, church, and government.

Fighting to restrain governments war, military expansion, taxation expansion, spending, debt, interventionism, 'moral wars' such as 'war on drugs' or 'war on fat children', naturally leads to more rights for all - including gays.
I have no idea what you're getting so many nasty answers, but here's some stuff I hope will help you get involved and make a difference.

This link is to The Human Rights Campaign, a national grassroots organization setup to further gay and lesbian civil rights.

On the website, there's an article specifically dedicated to making a difference. Here's the link. (You'll need Acrobat Reader to open this)

In the bottom left hand corner, go to page 8 of 23. This is the part of the article that discusses ways to make a difference and further gay %26amp; lesbian civil rights. It talks about ways to bring the issue to politicians and how to create more awareness to this form of discrimination to the general public.

Also, I believe it always strengthens an argument if you know as much about the topic as possible. Here's a list of the rights that gay/lesbian couples are denied because they can't marry:

-joint parenting

-joint adoption

-joint foster care, custody, and visitation (including non-biological parents);

-status as next-of-kin for hospital visits and medical decisions where one partner is too ill to be competent

-joint insurance policies for home, auto and health;

-dissolution and divorce protections such as community property and child support

-immigration and residency for partners from other countries

-inheritance automatically in the absence of a will;

-joint leases with automatic renewal rights in the event one partner dies or leaves the house or apartment

-inheritance of jointly-owned real and personal property through the right of survivorship (which avoids the time and expense and taxes in probate)

-benefits such as annuities, pension plans, Social Security, and Medicare

-spousal exemptions to property tax increases upon the death of one partner who is a co-owner of the home;

-veterans' discounts on medical care, education, and home loans --joint filing of tax returns

-joint filing of customs claims when traveling;

-wrongful death benefits for a surviving partner and children

-bereavement or sick leave to care for a partner or child

-decision-making power with respect to whether a deceased partner will be cremated or not and where to bury him or her;

-crime victims' recovery benefits

-loss of consortium tort benefits

-domestic violence protection orders;

-judicial protections and evidentiary immunity

Making use of this info will help strengthen your arguments and hopefully help you gain support.
Just get a lot of people. I'm pretty sure you have a lot of friends so start something on facebook. Get people to rally behind you and when there is enough, there is no stopping you now. :)

P.S I agree with you all the way, Gay people deserve their rights. People who say otherwise, are just homophobes and should be ashamed. Unless they are Gay them selves, THEY HAVE NO RIGHT IN JUDGING.
are they inhumanly treated no there not there not put to death for what they believe so they cant have a baby well guess what it takes a man and a woman to do that there not tortured for be like that so they cant be married so what
There are plenty already out there you can join. Why reinvent the wheel? Join one of the existing campaigns against this ban, and do what you can with them.
I would suggest joining a group that is already in your area. I would check with the Human Rights Campaign. I would also try to go to your local gay pride parade when it happens and look into the groups there.
That's true, if people love each other they should have the right to marry each other no matter what their genders are.

Maybe you could set up a group of facebook, I'm sure you'd get a lot of support

x
i'm not against gay people, but i think gay marriage is just wrong..

and is marriage really necessary??????
I hate that the government thinks gays aren't human. The best way to start something like this is with a group of friends who can help make decisions. It's easier in a group. :]
Simple..

Don't not worth the time and effort

1. Government don't listen to anything anyone says

2. If gay people are concerned let them do it their selves :)
Why not just join a campaign as opposed to start one. There's plenty of big, established ones.
It is against Gods will and you best just stay home and make cookies! Perversion is why HIV and Aids is killing of the population.
just get out there and start

make signs, petitions and stuff

if you feel so strongly about it then go for it!
I'm pretty sure that someone has already beat you to the punch on that. There are plenty of groups protesting such things.
Start hitting people with your purse.
yeah i know gays are treated like peodaphiles lol ^^

look at the guys answer what an idiot
I agree, and pedophiles should be able to marry children
Please don't.
How about you leave it up to the state to vote?
bend over
why would you want to anyway? if they want something, they should do it themselves
I want to marry my hampster...why are my rights being withheld?
They CAN marry, just not the same sex. I'm a heterosexual and I am denied the same rights, so it really isn't biased. As to the marry who you love, I can't marry my sister(although I don't love her that way some people do love siblings like that) so you can't use that argument either. Also what about people who are in love with more then one person? They can't marry multiple people either.
